Midnight Tour
Kussangajannguaq 5, 3952 Ilulissat
Set sail from Ilulissat at the bottom of Disko Bay, where you will be given every opportunity to watch whales swim around and find food out in the bay and even among the giant icebergs. Here we see humpback whales, herring fishermen or even blue whales on a daily basis. From the water we will see and explore the giant iceberg city, Ilulissat — which is the Greenlandic name for the city, which literally translates literally “icebergs”. We sail in a smaller fast open boat that carries a maximum of 6 passengers. Here we are given great opportunities to get close to the water and ice and we are flexible and can stop anywhere for good photo or film shoots. At the bottom of the 50km-deep fjord, ice breaks off the northern hemisphere's most prolific glaciers. Every day, chunks of the 13-mile-long glacier front calves, rising three hundred feet above the water, equivalent to the total water consumption of the United States in a year. At the outlet of the ice fjord immediately south of the city they beach, and here we see icebergs towering up to over 100 meters above sea level, and remember only an eighth of the mass of the iceberg is above the water, the rest is below. This is perhaps most clearly illustrated by the tens of thousands of smaller icebergs and ice shoals where we can see far into the cold crystal clear waters.

About whaletours.gl
I was born and raised in Ilulissat, as a bilingual and speak Danish and Greenlandic fluently. I also speak English, German and Italian. Since childhood, I have sailed and fished in the majority of Disko Bay. I have been doing business in the city for many years, and continue a family business founded in 1957. I am serviceminded and have great knowledge of Ilulissat and Greenland. I aim to give each guest a personal experience, which can be done as we sail in a smaller boat. I marvel daily at the ever-changing nature with icebergs varying in thousands of sizes and shapes. The trips on the water provide for the majority of our guests what can be called a life experience. Particularly striking is the encounter with whales, which are often observed quite close up. The sound when the whale breaks the surface and gives off a blow and then fills the lungs can be heard far away in the quiet surroundings, interrupted only by a little chuckle from the nearby icebergs.
